Quick Summary:
From the author of The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, Charles Duhigg takes a much broader look at how we as humans can become more productive in our personal lives as well as in our field of business. Smarter, Faster, Better is broken up into eight chapters each focused on one way to increase productivity in life or in business and with each an anecdote of the idea being used in practice. Charles reminds us of some obvious things like the importance of goal setting and having why having a mix of specific goals as well as long-term goals can lead you to an increase in the likelihood of checking those goals off your list. But, it's the stories of how these principles are applied that really make this book a worthwhile read.
Why Read It?:
While this book mostly tells you things you already know or heard, it's the stories of how they are put into practice that really makes this book worth the read. From the stories about the early seasons of "Saturday Night Live" to the poker player competing in a $2 million winner-take-all tournament, or even the story about how Disney's Frozen came to be, the stories make this book a must-read. If you lower your expectations by ignoring the subtitle, and simply enjoy the stories and think about how you can take these common principles and apply them to your daily life, you'll gain valuable wisdom. It's helpful learning from others, and when we apply those lessons with what we already know, that's all it takes to help spur ideas to improve our personal lives and our business lives.
